Almost everybody would agree that the passing year 2020 was a special one. For me it meant switching from travel-intensive work (155 flights last year!) to home office. It also meant more hiking in my home country than travelling abroad. Let me share my impressions of the Year 2020 in 12 Photos - October.
Photo of the month
Babia Góra is the highest peak of the Beskids. The mountain is quite prominent. It means that there's no higher mountain in its proximity. Therefore - a perfect vintage point. I had planned a crazy trip to that mountain. It required 2:30hrs driving in the night followed by 2:00hrs climbing up to witness a sunrise at the summit. The plan materialized on the first weekend of October 2020. The weather was not perfect, but still good enough. The only problem was extremely strong wind. It was blowing over 100km/h and there was a moment it actually forced me to sit down. Perhaps not the best time to be on a top of mountain... However, the photos I made were worth of the effort. My pick for the photo of the month is not the sunrise itself. It had been made just a moment before the sun emerged. I liked the fantastic clouds travelling on still darkish skies.
Runner Up
My runner-up photo for October was made at Czerwone Wierchy in the Tatras. It is a group of 4 peaks, each above 2000m. They are famous for the views. I did not have a good weather, though. The peaks were shrouded by clouds. Therefore the best photo I took, was a mountain goat. Presumably a male. As I was approaching the herd for a better photo, most goats went away, but one stayed to challenge me. It had allowed me to come quite close before it followed the rest of the herd.
Also on the podium
The last photo shows the Tatras, viewed from the Gorce mountains. It was early morning and the lowlands between my vantage point and the Tatras were covered in a dense mist. The peaks of the Tatras magnificently emerged from a sea of clouds. The air was cold and crisp. It made perfect viewing conditions.
Stay Tuned
This was the tennth post in the series Year 2020 in 12 Photos - October. I will post consecutive months over the last 12 days of December 2020. Stay tuned!
